Green Energy

Industrial Engineering* (accreditation in preparation)
Speciality in Green Energy*

The scarcity of energy and resources, accompanied by rising global demand, means we are faced with enormous challenges. Fossil fuels are finite, while nuclear power involves barely controllable risks.

It is necessary to chart a new course for a sustainable and safe energy supply. Therefore, greater use of renewable energy is inevitable. This must go hand in hand with energy supply systems which are driven by optimum energy management, from generation through to consumption. Modern information and communication technology can make a positive contribution to optimising energy efficiency and the expansion of renewable energy, for the power supply of the future will integrate intelligent information networks, known as smart grids. These will be instrumental in the ability to shape the future-orientated use of renewable energies, despite the unpredictability of their generation capacity.

Parameters

Holistic energy management doesn’t end with the transfer to the private household or industrial customer. On the contrary, it needs to strive for the continuous integration of the local energy consumer, andof future mobility. Green energy therefore embraces technology, from the intelligent power supply to the smart home, as well as the issue of electromobility.

Qualification Goals
In the Green Energy specialisation of the dual Industrial Engineering bachelor programme*, students acquire solid training in the areas of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology. The course content then builds upon these and focuses on the generation, distribution and management of renewable energies.
The course also addresses technical aspects as well as the organisational and legal frameworks.

Fields of Application

The course comprehensively combines essential technical skills and specific, specialist knowledge of sustainable energy supply. Rounded off by a focus on management skills, the programme creates the prerequisites for a broad spectrum of professional activity.
The professional outlook in this field is already promising, and not just in Germany. The market is developing further, and German companies are becoming increasingly active in this sector internationally.
The Green Energy specialisation of the Industrial Engineering bachelor degree develops application-orientated engineers for employment in industry, planning agencies, energy companies and public institutions.

Typical Spheres of Activity

  • Planning and project tasks in solar energy farms, wind farms, biogas plants; connection networking and integration with plants for further energy conversion.
  • Development of technical components and systems for renewable energies.
  • Integration of renewable and hybrid energy systems.
  • Development and management of projects in sustainable energy supply.

The combination of specialist and management competence, as well as their application over the course of dual study, mean graduates are particularly well equipped to take up expert and management positions.
