Global economic networks, short product life cycles and continuously mounting competitive pressure shape international business life. Technical systems are becoming increasingly complex and incorporate an array of mechanical, electronic and information technology components. The development, production and use of these systems and their related processes demand interdisciplinary knowledge and the application of key aspects within industrial engineering: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering/electronics and information technology.

Parameters

Systems engineers think holistically and make decisions which consider all system-relevant areas. With their understanding of economic relationships and ability to shape processes systems engineers are qualified to efficiently and successfully configure comprehensive technical systems.

Qualification Goals
Students in the Systems Engineering specialisation of the dual Industrial Engineering bachelor degree programme* are trained in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering/electronics and information technology. Furthermore, they are equipped to apply commercial knowledge to the configuration of complex technical systems, and acquire soft skills for management roles and project leadership.

Fields of Application Professional areas:

• Leadership of technically demanding projects; roles along the interface of specialist departments such as development and construction, as well as of management and customers
• Analytical survey of customer demands, model building, simulation and optimisation of complex technical systems
• Development and construction as well as the documentation and evaluation of comprehensive device and technical systems in line with economic parameters
• Leadership, monitoring, maintenance and sales management of complex technical facilities and products.
